Many post-secondary institutions are within one hours driving distance of Scugog including York University, University of Toronto, Senca College and Centennial College. Located twenty minutes south of Scugog is Durham College, offering a variety of different diplomas.

The entire Greater Toronto Area market is easily accessible from Scugog. Most materials and markets are accessible via the various transportation systems in the area. Coal, fuel, oil, gasoline, steel, and safety salt are major cargo handled at Oshawa Harbour.
